Sami could be given holding role

Sami Hyypia could step up into central midfield this evening against Portsmouth due to the injury to Bolo Zenden.
Zenden was due to get a run in the team as Alonso and Sissoko are injured, but Zenden was injured in the win over Manchester City, and Liverpool are now left with only Gerrard in the centre of the field.
Carragher and Agger have been touted as potential candidates to step in, but Rafa Benitez says he reckons Sami Hyypia can do a job there:
"The first name that came into my head to replace Bolo was Sami, honestly,"
"People have been saying that Daniel's emergence might mean the end for Sami, but maybe Sami can play as a holding midfielder. I need to check whether he has the tactical movement and awareness you need playing there, but it's not difficult.
"You just need to be clever. What do you need to do? In Argentina, it's their number 5, a holding midfielder who's a centre back playing a bit higher. I've spoken to him two or three weeks ago about that. Now I just need to think about which option to take."
Hyypia stepping up could give Agger a game in defence alongside Carragher, so everyone is accomodated for.

Reckon Hyypia could be the new Hamann? as Rafa said hes good with both feet, scored some cracking goals not just with his head for us, (volley against spurs an example), he can tackle, gets up well for headers too. It might give him an extra season rather than him being a defender
That Rafa eh? always re-negotiating players positions, hypia in the midfield could actually be a stroke of genius… I can see it now, just occupying that makaleele role.. It might just work. Wishing the boys all the best 2nite, but a bit concerend as to why we haven’t got any good youth team players stepping up?
Hyypia in midfield, i definitely don’t agree with that, is there no emerging talent who deserves a chance to show what he can do, for me this is shuffling the pack too far, he has been a good player for LFC, but too many stray balls to the opposition this season does not inspire me with total confidence in this role, surely we must have more midfielders than gerrard and 3 injured ones at anfield.
It would seem that the youth system isn’t really producing at the mo… as hypia in the midfield shows. There should definetly be a keen 18-19 yr old ready to step up to the fray… how we have arrived in this position is anyones guess
I love sami really but he is no Hamann. he’s been very slow this season and is bringing down the defence lately. sorry to say it but it’s true.
It really wouldn’t work
