They say no news is good news; clearly not in this case. Liverpool fans are still left wondering what is happening regarding the sale of the club, despite talk in July that the club was ‘on course’...

Hicks : We won’t price out fans

Liverpool Co-Owner Tom Hicks says that Liverpool fans will not be priced out of buying tickets when the new stadium is built.

Construction of the new stadium was due to start on April 7th, but now Hicks and Gillett have reconsidered the idea, hoping to increase the capacity from 61000 to around 76000, but Hicks moved quick to assure fans that ticket prices will be affordable: " As you get into the technology of building a stadium, one of the things you do is have a broader menu of pricing,"

"You have cheaper seats for people that would be attracted to that and so there's a way that they can afford to go. And you have special seats and special amenities for people who are able to pay for that. But there won't be a bad seat in the house."

Tom also said that he and George Gillett want the new Anfield stadium to be the best around, and have looked into increasing the capacity to generate more money for the club; "We want to maintain the essential approval but we would like to find ways to improvewhat has been planned, because it was planned mostly seven years ago and a lot has changed in that seven years,"

"We go through that process to make things better for the fans. There will be some tweaks but I can't really talk about them.

"Our goal is to make Liverpool's the finest football stadium of all."

The new co-owner added that Rafa Benitez is the man they want in charge, and they will provide him with enough funds to compete in the transfer market : "Our job as owners is to create the right balance of generating as much revenue as the fans want to pay, the sponsors want to pay, the media companies want to pay and giving as much of it to the players as you have to to have a business that can go forward as a business,"

"The key is to have a smart manager like Rafa who will take a long-term view of how we can get better. I know enough from talking to him now that he wants to build for the long term.

"I'm not saying we won't spend for transfers, that may be what we do. But it's got to be in the context of a plan that makes Liverpool competitive every year for a long time.

"We have budgeted a big number, I'm not going to tell you what it is because it's part of Rafa's plan, but the new stadium is very important to that because with the higher revenues Liverpool have we will be able to compete with anybody."

According to a few other sites, spanish paper Marca has said we are after Saviola from Barca, but i searched the site and could not find anything about it.

He has never really been in the first team plans at Barca, only when they have been hit by severe injuries, and hes been out on loan at Sevilla and Monaco in the past, i reckon he would be a decent signing, he has played a few times this season and got a few goals to his name

Saviola is a good player and intelligent. He’s not prolific but if he played regularly he would score for Liverpool. He could replace Fowler; but I still think we need David Villa as our 1st choice if we can get him.

Great news about the 76,000 seater. 61,000 wasn’t big enough for Liverpool FC. We’re a bigger club than Arsenal etc.. and our stadium should reflect that superior stature.

Alright 1Red1Pool, just out of interest mate where did you hear about the stadium confirmation cos I can’t stop smiling ?

Tyron26,

Sorry I was away there for a few days. I don’t think the stadium capacity is confirmed yet but from the article I read G&H aren’t going to build the 60,000 seater with no room for increase. They want it increased now but if it can’t be they definitely want permission to do so in the future.

They are wise enough to know it was stupid what Moores & Parry were doing building a brand new stadium you can’t increase the capacity of in future. 60,000 is to small minded for a club like ours; a problem which has blighted the Moores & Parry era.

I’m confident the Americans will make a statement by building a stadium to match OT’s capacity, at least. Americans know how to put the challenge down to their nearest rivals! Anything less would be very disappointing for me as I said from the beginning.

He’s been quite prolific over the years, playing as a second striker to bigger fowards like Kluivert, Morientes and Kanoute at Seville. In league competitions he’s scored 65 league goals in 136 starts and 40 sub appearances since 2001. In that time he has scored 24 goals in 33 starts in european competitions. He’s only 25 and is seen as an automatic starter for his native Argentina, fighting off the likes of Tevez and club mate Leo Messi. I don’t think we could go far wrong with signing him and as far as I know he’s been available for a free transfer for a while. Good news on the re-think on the stadium, we need bigger to compete at this level and attract bigger players.

Just been watching a couple videos of sinama pongolle / harry kewell /and feel very excited! You know it’s been so long I really had forgot what harry could do and I gotta say the guy is class. he’s had injuries but that is clear to see but if those are behind him, boy have we got a player!

Sinama is doing well out in Spain and it was a good move by the Gaffa to let him get the first team experience that is necessary, so hopefully he’ll come back a more complete player.

Also heard that we may be in for Real Madrid’s Robiniho and my god I hope we get him. I watched him a lot last season and he has all the ingredients to tear the prem a new asshole. There is talk that he didn’t live up to the hype but it’s just that he went to Real too early (Ronaldinho went PSG before Barca) and especially since they’ve been having so many problems. He’s been touted at around 10 mill and that is a snip, even Zidane during his last season at Real said that robinhino was the most skillful player he’d worked with in the last 2 yrs, and the man quite clearly knows his stuff!

Robinho / Kewell / pongolle /a coming of age pennant / zaviola … may just be our answers!!!

The

Cheers for that 1Red1Pool it’s very likely that G&H will want a bigger development with thier experience in stadium building!
