Referee Rob Styles has been suspended from Premier League duties after some shocking decisions during our 1-1 draw with Chelsea yesterday.
There’s already lots of other rants about the actual incident so I’ll leave the other various threads for that.
Keith Hackett revealed Styles has admitted his mistake hence Hackett has also contacted Benitez to apologise.

You never know but all the controversy around the chelsea match may have a positive effect on the players, the team and the manager, obviously we should have ended the game with a clean sheet, but maybe now they realise that we cannot just be content with a slender lead, and we have to make domination count, i’m not blaming anybody but the referee for the point’s lost, but our chances to increase the lead were much better than anything chelsea came up with for an equaliser, they had a couple of moments but reina was never called upon to rescue any situation, i’m hoping it’s a spark that ignites an even hungrier attitude to get 3 points every game, chelsea settled for a draw when crouch came on, alonso, kuyt and riise have had better games for LFC, but everybody else made up for that, don’t get me wrong, i’d take 3pts any how, but back in our golden era we used to get decisions like that, now it seems since the prem, utd, chelsea and arsenal benefit from dodgy decisions and officials, can’t see rafa dropping kuyt until he bags a few or voronin is spectacular when given his opportunity, i would never have brought such a slow moving player in the first place, kuyt and crouch pretty much have to be in the box waiting otherwise they’ll never be up with any rapid play.

jtppn Your right about Kuyt and Crouch and scoring in the box, out of the 32 goals they scored last season 30 were in the box. Not that thats bad. But it’s also a fact that they needed other players to create there chances, where as Torres can make his own as well as feed off others and supply an assist when needed.
Xabi must stay and we all should be backing him, REMEMBER it wasnt to long ago when Stevie G was flirting with Chelsea/Chavski and alot of True REDS and I mean True reds were saying let him go we got XABI and he worth the money etc etc etc, is history repeating itself???? we got a new midfielder in mascha and he playing great so we just put old xabi on the back burner like lots did with Stevie G? Bullshit, this guy is still young he needs fans support and time to get over his fears of being dropped etc, lets see his game this season, bet he proves us wrong, besides we need a variation in midfield and mascha is like sissoko then we need xabi for the variation otherwise Stevie playing 60-70 matches again,???
Ittpn what you say makes a lot of sense, but 3 points would have been much better.Even now I have a bad feeling ,come May we will be regretting what we lost on that day.Hope lady luck takes our side in the future….
stulivered , your right alonso is a class player. masch, and sisoko. are ball winners, not ball players. alonso is diffrent he is a top player and we all should be giving him our surrport
ok lets be honest here .until we can turn dominance and possession into goals we wont win the league, we need to start hitting 2 and 3 goals in games, then one dodgy decision wont matter( like the chavs penalty . What is great is knowing, 100% that we have got the ability of beating off and slaughtering chelsea… and whats even better is that they know it too ! but they will always have the last laugh until we end 17 years of hurt !

ALONSO IS A CLASS PLAYER BUT HE IS NOT PERFORMING AND HASNT DONE SO FOR SOME TIME. WHEN A PLAYER UNDER PERFORMS HE IS USUALLY DROPPED UNTIL HE’S FORM RETURNS.IF HE’S OVERALL FORM CONTINUES TO BE POOR WE SHOULD DROP HIM, HE HAS ALL THE PASSING ABILITY IN THE WORLD BUT WHEN DID HE LAST PLAY A TELLING PASS ? , RECENTLY HE’S PASSES ARE BACKWARDS OR SIDEWARDS, I HOPE HE’S FORM IMPROVES.
If I didn’t hate Man Utd enough as it was, they have managed to make me hate them even more! Their treatment of Heinze is just terrible, first they deny him the move to Liverpool he wants so so much and then they just rub it in his face, I wouldn’t be surprised if a few fifties didn’t change hands if you know what i mean. You would think after the Tevez ‘Saga’ they wouldn’t want anymore hassle.Now Heinze has been warned that if he doesn’t move off to a foreign club, he can ‘ROT’ in the reserves!!! Well then just let him go to Liverpool!!!! I hope Heinze’s Appeal goes through so he can come to Liverpool and we can Laugh in Fergie’s shiney red face!
The reason his passes are going backwards and sideways is because Kuyt and Crouch don’t make runs into decent positions. They haven’t got the pace to run past defenders.
I believe this will change with Torres in the fold. When they click we’ll be laughing. Only two games gone so a bit more time for Xabi.
If he has a problem with competition he just has to look at Finnan, how many lads a fallen by the wayside when Steve’s class has risen to the top? But if Xabi can’t handle he needs to grow up.
In all fairness to Utd. Heinze is their player and I believe they can turn down or accept whatever bid comes in for the man.
I dispise Utd just as much as the next fan. But if it was lets say Xabi Alonso or Steven Gerrard looking to go to Utd under similar circumstances would you be backing the player then?
No you would not! Heinze is a Utd player and thats the end of it. So unless he signs for Lyon for 5million and then we buy him off Lyon for 6million we can say the letter saga is over.
Its more the treatment of Heinze than the fact he can’t come to Liverpool that bothers me, and that Ferguson said publicly that he can ‘rot’ for all he cares. For a Player Heinze’s age it must be a bit demeaning for him to pushed about like that, usually its the young players that are told where to go and what to do. That’s all I’m saying!
I had a £20 bet with an arsenal fan at work that we would beat chelsea, because he’s too scared to bet on his own team this season, i also have money that we finish above chelsea, so rob styles cost me a £20 win, but probably somewhere else he has cost somebody a lot more money, as you can officially bet on anything these days, especially the asian market where LFC are a big team anyway, i do seriously believe we will be 1st or 2nd this season, going head to head with either utd or chelsea, as was proved on sunday we have nothing to fear, couple of seasons back we got thumped 4-1, drogba suckered traore into giving a penalty away and we fell apart chasing the game after that, even when garcia got his ghost goal chelsea were much the better team, but not particularly on that night, and not anymore, the way they celebrated the equaliser was more like everton or tranmere achieving something, ” The Times, They are a Changing “.

There were alot of positives in the game.they all just fade away with the crazy decision.

I BELIEVE DIRK KUYT SHOULD PLAY AS A ATTACKING MIDFIELDER JUST BEHIND THE FRONT TWO. NOBODY CAN DENY HE’S EFFORT AND WORKRATE ARE SECOND TO NONE, HE CLOSES DEFENDERS DOWN , WHICH THEY DON’T LIKE. BUT AS A STRIKER HE IS PAID TO SCORE GOALS AND LOTS OF THEM. UNFORTUNATELY HE IS PLAYING TOO DEEP FOR THAT TO HAPPEN, WHICH MAKES THINGS HARDER FOR HE’S STRIKE PARTNER. SO WHY NOT PLAY HIM JUST BEHIND THE FRONT TWO, EITHER THAT OR THE COACHING STAFF NEED TO TELL HIM TO PLAY IN A MORE ADVANCED POSITION.

Why not play Benayoun in such a position? He’s got more invention than Kuyt and is suited to the midfield role. I don’t think Kuyt should play midfield because when he gets the ball he doesn’t seem to know what to do with it. Playing in midfield would give him more possession to waste.
I like your thinking of a more attack minded home stratagy.
IF WE PLAYED KUYT IN MIDFIELD HE WOULD GIVE GIVE 100 % WHICH HE DOES IN EVERY GAMR Philk14 , THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE IS TO MAKE HIM PLAY FURTHER FORWARD. BENNYOUN ISNT A BAD PLAYER BUT HE RUNS HOT AND COLD, WITH KUYT YOU KNOW HE WILL CHASE EVERYTHING DOWN AND BASICLY BE EVERYWHERE. IT IS ONLY A SUGGESTION, I’D PREFER TO SEE OUR COACHING STAFF INSIST THAT HE DOES HE HARD WORK , RUNNING CLOSING DOWN IN AND AROUND THE OPPOSITIONS 6 YARD BOX , WHICH AS A STRIKER IS WHERE HE SHOULD BE.
I get what your sayin’. But if we have another midfielder in there I’d prefer Mascherano coming in and Gerrard pushing up a bit further. In a role similar to Kaka’ at Milan.
I just think an advanced midfielder would get a lot of the ball and as Gerrard uses the ball in midfield better the more he gets it we would feel the benifit.
Also Alonso could advance a bit more and get more goals. The bonus in this 4-4-1-1 formation would be that we have our three best centre midfielders on the pitch.

I think Alonso’s nose has been put out of joint by the signing of Mascherano. LFC’s interest in the Argentine coincided with Xabi drop in form. But his class is undoubted and the cream will rise to the top. If he can’t face a bit of competition for places, well then f**k him is what I say.
I’d prefer to see Voronin in before Crouch, he seems hungrier and looks a better player. Crouch looks worse evertime he plays. If he can’t produce the goods off the bench well then I say goodbye and good luck to him. Because he’s not good enough to hold down a first team place.
Buy Anelka. Torres and he would compliment each other very well.
Ya beat me to it philk14.Just read the news about him wanting to leave.I think that out of all the players who left anfield,he would be the one to get back.the guy has scored twice in the two games that he has played ..more even if im mistaken.he has an eye for goal and has the skills to match.That would leave out kuyt who in my honest opinion should be converted to an attacking midfielder.he would do wonders fdro the midfield.he has the work rate and stamina that fits in nicely.

I agree with you about Alonso. He is a good player and very classy, but if he can’t get over the signing of Mascherano, see ya later. I hope he stays, though. When he’s on, he makes the Reds a better team. I also agree about Voronin. But, not Anelka. I hope Rafa stays away from this sulking, brooding guy. He wears out his welcome at teams pretty quickly. Yes, he can score some goals, but he’s so moody that he wears on people. He can be a cancer in the dressing room if he’s not happy and going well. Stay far, far away from Anelka.
I agree with you 100% PHILK14 about ANELKA ,he would certainly do the job for us.Regarding Alonso ,let,s not forget that mascherano could get injured and cover could be needed,then he is also on loan only until june and we might might NOT be able to sign him again(Joorabchian).So if a deal for masch is done come next june,and Momo improves his attacking skills, I’m sure Alonso will be sent home to either Real or Barcelona.
