Who should we go for now that Heinze has gone to Madrid?

Now that Gabriel Heinze's move collapsed after the league ruled against a move to Anfield, he has joined Real Madrid. He would have been cover at left and centre back, but should we go for instead now?
Not many defender's names have been linked with Liverpool over the summer, it was all about strikers and midfielders, but there is only a week to go to get someone else in before the transfer window shuts. Who do you think we should go for?

The way Man U are carrying on with this talk about Liverpool being punished for ‘tapping’ up Heinze is just the same as the Sheffield/West ham thing at the end of last season. Because West ham had a better run at the end of the season Sheffield UTD where at a loss so they took it out on the better team instead of facing their own problems and admitting faults. Because Liverpool are having a good start to the season and Man U are Struggling, they are venting the anger and shame out on us. Put simply, they are embarrassed!

For all those who think our defense is good – would you be so confident if (God forbid) Jamie got injured? Without him our defense would be as vulnerable as Spurs’s! We need another big strong lad to cover. I read before someone saying Momo would do well and i think that is not a bad idea at all! Not so sure if he would like it but its either that or THE DOOR!

i dont think we need a winger more than we do a centre back.
a tall big centre back is what rafa needs to buy..
the left back can be filled in by riise ..right back finnan..and we all have seen that arbeloa can play both left n right..
but we need cover for carra and agger…
Just a thought.Why don,t we try momo as a central defender?He is tall,fast, brave,great tackler and can be groomed in the reserves for that job on the weeks he is not playing for the first team.He must improve his reading of the game of course and his positional sense ,but it’s worth a try.He might succeed, also he might turn into another Igor Biscan…

oh yeah i forgot to add ..i think ezequel garay( dunno if the spellin is rite) from racing santander or daniel jarque from espanyol are good team players and wouldn even cost that much…or maybe some african defender..
Well i will still give hypia a chance..and i don’t really think we desesperately need buy a defender.
Agger and hyppia can do the job… or we have youngster darby who showed good skills in preseason though he scored an ongoal, anyway even caragher started like that…but he is a future caragher, why not give him a chance, even when agger came nobody was giveing him a chance to succeed…
Who do u guys want to bring as cover for caragher who would accept to be on the bench????

Anyway i still believe the best defence is to attack, it don’t matter if caragher is not playing we concede goals if We are scoring much more than the opponent and winning…its upfront that the problem is still going on, not in the back!!!
May be Vincent Kompany can do a good job, but he is not a central defender.
Arbeloa is a very good deal made from benitez, plays so well on both sides, who knows how he’ll play in the central position
IF WE DONT SIGN ANOTHER DEFENDER IT IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD, RIISE HAS SERVED US WELL AT LEFT BACK OVER THE YEARS, ARBELOA HAS PROVED HE CAN PLAY AT RIGHT OR LEFT BACK WITHOUT LETTING THE TEAM DOWN, DARBY LOOKED USEFUL IN PRE SEASON AND SAMI STILL HAS A PART TO PLAY THIS SEASON. I agree with EDDIE888, we dont a defender that much. Riise and Arbeloa are good at left back and we have Fabio Aurelio. I cant wait for him to be back, he is good at free-kicks, something that we lack greatly. Riise n Alonso should be banned from taking free-kicks, they waste them. What do you think?

quite simply VINCENT KOMPANY, he is the best alternative to heizne out there at the minute, Rafa should trick coax and steal his way into getting this lad to start thinking about liverpool and maybe get him in the jan window or next season, he is worth the wait, yound with bags of skill and great at his number one job defending, with carra getting older this lad can come through with agger and form a partnership which would be lethal over the next 10yrs or so.
