Still no news on the club sale despite “hope

They say no news is good news; clearly not in this case. Liverpool fans are still left wondering what is happening regarding the sale of the club, despite talk in July that the club was ‘on course’...

Rafa warns that Torres will get better

Rafa Benitez has hailed Fernando Torres after he scored three goals against Hull today, but has warned that the Spanish striker will get better.

Torres now has 8 goals in 7 games, and is showing the kind of form that set the league alight in his first season at Anfield; however Benitez says that we have not seen the best of Fernando yet:“He can do even better, in the last three games he’s been really good. He’s improving and his mentality, workrate and movements show his ability.

“Still I think he can do better. The main thing is the mentality of the player. I always say the same: he’s keen to learn and that’s the main thing. That means he will improve. How much depends on him.

“£20 million is a massive figure for us, so we knew he was good. But the main thing when we decided to bring him here apart from his quality was the potential, his age and the future he had. So, we are very pleased now but he can still improve.

Rafa also says Liverpool are playing the same system that saw the Reds struggle against the likes of Hull & Stoke last season, but have been easily brushed aside this time round: “We are not changing anything. Here, if you look at the team, it was more or less the same. It depends on the movement of the players. The system is more or less the same.

“Maybe we have more accuracy this year. If you look at the statistics we’re having more shots on target this year and we are scoring more goals.

“We were playing with a lot of confidence here and creating a lot of chances. At the end we could change players, give players a rest and think about the next game.

“Six goals is fantastic but it could have been even better because we had some chances. That’s another positive – the mentality of the team going forward, winning the game and still trying to score more.

We don’t need Fernando to be better really…..we need him to stay as he is all through the season for us!

Friends, there may be light at the end of the tunnel. Following a dismal summer in which our expectations came undone with lack of funds for the transfer market and a negative spotlight on our beloved Club, followed by a stuttering start to the football season, the news coming our way has been positive…..very positive.
The Club has recently announced a record Stg 80 million shirt-sponsorship deal with Chartered Bankers for the next 4 years, is negotiating a possible stadium naming rights deal worth another Stg 100 million, and has now caught the much wanted attentions of a Saudi Prince who, backed by a consortium, is willing to invest anything from Stg 250 to Stg 350 million in the Club for a 50% stake!!! All this positive financial news is more welcoming especially after the long and enduring mud-throwing campaigns which at one time suggested LFC would go out of business! All this could revive the stadium plans and would surely wipe out most of the Clubs debt, which equates to more profit, which then results in more money for future transfers!
The Team has won 4 consecutive PL games, its first CL fixture, and qualified for the next round of the Carling Cup. We are third in the PL and have the best goal difference. All this after skeptics wiped us out barely a month after the real football got underway!
The Players are beginning to fire on all cylinders with Torres actually running on after-burners. Still some work to do in central defense but otherwise there seems to be a slow but general improvement. With Torres hitting top form, Riera slowly resurrecting, and Mascherano convincing himself that Liverpool is his immediate future, there is also a marked improvement seen in Babel (finally deployed on the right – and I am not referring to the two goals he scored on Saturday). We have Aurelio playing again, Agger getting fit and Aquilani on the brink of making his Reds debut in October.
Summing up from start of hostilities to-date we can say that the financial, squad, results and players’ aspect all seem to point at an optimistic future. So let’s keep our fingers crossed lads.
Next up Fiorentina in Firenze on Tuesday were the fans can turn their Dantesque passion into hostility, even against their own team if they don’t perform. Top striker Gilardino is suspended, and attacking winger Santana is in doubt due to injury. The have a solid squad and Prandelli is a master tactician too. They are currently third in the Seria A. Fiorentina will be a difficult match for us, mark my words!
Today week we play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge! Chelsea lost the game and their heads at Wigan. Cech won’t play us unless his red card is rescinded. The Blues will be playing Apoel on Wednesday and contrary to expectations, it won’t be a joyride for them either. Another important test of where we stand with our game, but we will have a day more to recover and plan our approach.

will be missing tomorrow, mash is feeling unwell and benny has a slight injury.lets hope it does not affect are performance in italy, were even a draw will be good come on you reds…

he has gone to italy, so he might play. correction from the top story…

I know it may seem a bit petty given the amount of money we are getting but has anyone else looked at the bank’s logo? Not sure it’s going to look very good on our shirts, not even on our black away strip which I believe is one of the best looking strips we’ve ever had.
