Benitez guarantees top four finish; is he putting his job on the line?

Did Rafa just put his career on the line with a top four guarantee? Who knows for sure, but his recent comments regarding the rest of the season appear a cry for a ‘Premier League or bust’ campaign. Question is, will the players jump on the bandwagon and follow suit?
“Every game for us is one we have to win. Our mentality, our idea, is to try and win every game,” he affirmed.
“Sometimes you can, sometimes you cannot, but you can’t be negative – you have to think about the positives.
“The manager has to be positive and I am. But how can I change things? By working harder and doing my best every single day. The players they know this, and they are doing the same. We are working together.
“I can guarantee we will finish in the top four.
I’ll let these comments marinate for a bit before I chime in on them tomorrow prior to the match. What do you make of them?

this is it i think rafa has excpted, no 4th place he will go. we still not have got are petion?
I think it may be earlier than that – the Yanks are pushing a deal at £124M with someone they cannot risk a failure to qualify for the CL with RB.
If this deal is done they will pay him off – the end of the season is far too risky with the current state of morale throughout the club.
Something has to be done guys about RB if this was any other club in spain he would of been sacked yrs ago we got wigan tonight who we gotta beat as we know lowly birmingham are above us having won more games than us we are 8 pts off villa we need spurs and man c to draw tonight and burnley to do us a favour with arsenal we cant afford to let them get further ahead im dreading 2nites game will RB put 4 defenders on the bench again! and play with 2 holding MF’s as we are home! he’s a clown and loser lose tonight and its bye bye RB!
Continuously blaming & criticising the American owners is pathetic when it allows the obvious failings of Benitez to be masked.
He bleats about lack of transfer funds yet has a net spend as high if not higher than Chelsea & Manchester United. With the odd obvious exception he has brought mainly dross & there are no cheap buys that turn into gems. There has been no young talent developed & brought through during his reign. You always hear Benitez having a go at Babel for not making progress but surely that reflects poorly on Benitez player development abilities. If Babel a player of clear talent had been coached by Mr Wenger then he would have progressed a lot further by now.
I think a massive point was missed regarding last Sunday’s match & about the state of Liverpool in general. Even if Liverpool had won, it would have been a victory gained by the primary aim at the ANFIELD FORTRESS to stop the opposition playing & not by the positive imposing of their own game as they did during the 70’s & 80’s. This is so indicative of Benitez negative mentality.
This season the ‘ Liverpool Luck ‘ has run out & there can be no complaints as they have enjoyed sustained good fortune throughout both Houllier & Benitez reigns which always helped to take the pressure off them.
The 2005 Champions League triumph has been Benitez saving grace to date & yet there were lashings of good fortune to help Liverpool long the route right from the qualifying tie that season.
Bleating about the ‘ Gerrard no penalty decision ‘ can only be responded to with laughter & derision.
2 seasons ago when Liverpool & Arsenal met 3 times in a week in Europe & the League there were 3 penalty decisions that wrongly went against Arsenal & in favour of Liverpool. This resulted in the elimination of Arsenal from Europe despite being clearly the better team over both legs.
History would prove that the balance regarding penalty decisions etc sway massively in favour of Liverpool over opponents and particularly on a mammoth scale at Anfield.
Steven Gerrard’s ‘ chickens came home to roost ‘ with the denial of a penalty kick as he clearly has become a serial diver with perhaps the dive versus Blackburn fresh in Howard Webb’s memory. A dive which received in contrast to the ludicrous hype over Eduardo’s dive barely a mention in the media including silence on Match of the Day. ……. Don’t dare criticise a good ol’ Liverpool & English crown jewel but crucify the dirty Arsenal Johnny Foreigner.
Liverpool fans need a serious dose of objectivity & blame the real cause of their problems rather than focus solely on campaigning for ‘ the Yanks to go ‘.
As an Arsenal fan I see the positives in the style of football we play ( NOT Lottery football !! ) , the emerging youngsters at the club but equally the weaknesses …. Goalkeeper, lack of physical strength in the team & experienced back up in the squad. Nevertheless football & financially wise Arsenal are in a massively healthier position than Liverpool and as Arsenal fan I say forget objectivity ……. ‘ Vote for Benitez to STAY !! ‘ …… I DO !!!!
james leblanc go on to your own website and mind your own business we dont want u gooners invading our sight keep your nose out of things that doesnt concern you we want rafa out end of you would be the same as us if it was the other way around so butt out!
James where as we have our ploblems you also have yours better invest energy in solving your own. We want Rafa out period. SG is not a diver and indeed it was a pen.. but unlike u we never waste our time crying for those. We are simply not used to luck we.
And by the way James you better play we finish at least 3rd placed because i am certain lfc will finish above you period. Lets sort our selves out and by Feb you will know what i mean.
Lastly go to ur gooners site we don’t need your help here!!
Never mind them James – it’s the Angry Mob and there’s only 8 of them on this site… they’re called the Anfield Red Mist and they don’t want anyone butting in on their Theatre of Hate. lol
They’re not true Reds because they kick the manager when he’s down.
Benitez’lll turn it around. Guaranteed.
And if he doesn’t he leaves with the gratitude of the real Reds for the European Cup and the FA Cup. And doing his best for us, which may or may not be good enough. Still no reason to kick him. The idiots on here give no respect and therefore deserve none.
They want a Petition on here to boot Rafa out. But there’s only 8 of them !!
As a Liverpool fan for 45 years now I know these on here aren’t the real deal. They’re the Boo Boys which is definitely NOT the Anfield Way.
YNWA
cyrus a fan for 45 yrs well lad ive done 50. and born and bred a scouser, as they say i have been all around the world, but liverpool is my home… were are you from manchester? go crawl up your little hole and stay there moron…
Cyprus, i just like your anger!! u have the guts 2 call us idiots u know what here we don’t argue with fools because their trick is always one i.e to bring us to their level and beat us with experience.
I told you grey hair doesn’t always signify wisdom. its a shame that at you age you still sound illogical.
Go ahead and support the gooners because that’s where you belong!! but if u read james comment he also at least blames Rafa. I can see ur desperate to get support on RB. Bring up our petition or pol and you will see that we far more that 8 and ur only 1 unless you get support from the mancs and the gooners who are enjoying our losses.
so can you direct me to your imaginary friends ? They don’t appear to post on here I’ve checked.
8 … rouman, julie, kevj, jb, otleyred george, eddie88 and fairweather red.. any more ?
No thought not hee hee
Er don’t include me in ‘the group of 8′
Jb I’m not calling for support for Rafa. He’s got plenty (bar the 8 of you on here)
Don’t you understand the difference between criticising him versus calling for his head ? He has 200 000 on LFC.tv who may criticise but who understand that it’s PREMATURE to call for his head.
Read them. They criticise… but they’re not calling for his head.
You’re making a fool of yourself the same as raving rouman… why do I say that ? Because where are all these imaginary friends of yours ?
Next time you run into dopey, grumpy and bashful can you ask them to actually post something as proof that they exist ?
So stop making a fool of yourself mate. You’re just pretending there’s this tidal wave of people calling for Rafa’s head and that there’s lots of (invisible) people on this site who agree with you.
You can call for Rafa’s head all you like – you are premature and in the extreme minority.
Have a Poll if you like – all 8 of you.
Finally, four little letters that you may never grasp the meaning of (‘cos if you did, you wouldn’t say what you’re saying)

Yeah they’ll turn on Rafa at the end of NEXT season just the same as me, and just the same as the Board.
So why do you think all your phantom mates don’t write Rafa Out on sites like you then oh premature one? Because it’s too EARLY – do you STILL not get it ?
And hey you got three more phantom friends have you ? We arrive at the princely total of …11.
Rafa must be quaking in his boots.
Anyhow, Rafa’s learning. He shoring it up in the middle with Gerrard tonight. No Lucas. That’s a start.
Give it 10 games – see how Aquilani shows. THEN throw your toys out of the pram.
