Far be it for me to know how Steven Gerrard really feels but if today’s reports are true, the skipper is being considered in tomorrow night’s league match against Wolves.
The Guardian, amongst others, is reporting that Gerrard returned the Melwood over the weekend to train. Benitez even went as far as to hint that there could a Captain Fantastic sighting: “He was training on Saturday and then a full training session on Sunday, and today was the same,” said the Liverpool manager, Rafael BenÃtez. “Normally he’s someone who, if available, can play.
“We’ll decide tomorrow but I think he can be available.”
And we thought the match against Tottenham was good news! Whilst getting the skipper back early would be a huge shot in the arm, I think we all know his health comes first. Fernando Torres’ ability to fight through his injury only seemed to make it worse. And look where Nando is right now…on the physio table. Gerrard pushed earlier in the year and aggravated his hamstring once again.
Look, I’m all for having Gerrard back; but I only want him back if he’s healthy and 100-percent ready to go. It doesn’t make sense at this point to force him out there.
Here’s hoping Rafa isn’t taking a risk.
