3-1 Sounds Good to Me
You know…. I should change my profession after predicting our club would come out on top 3-1 over United. I might be able to turn that into a large profit if my game predictions continue to come true.
Just like in Back to the Future (part 2) when Biff gets ahold of the sports almanac Marty brought back and makes millions. Anyway, the game this Sunday has many talking points and what better way to spend a Monday morning while at work. In my last post about this great rivalry, I wrote about the great games this tandem have produced over the years and I believe this game should rank right up there. There was plenty of singing from this fan’s living room.
I’ll start with Luis Suarez. One has to wonder what might have been if Suarez was in the squad at the beginning of the season. This young man is fun to watch. His energy just pours out and to me the joy of being out there is written all over his face. When I watch him play, it makes me think about the honor it must be to wear that Liverpool shirt and perform at your best. I find myself fantasizing what it would be like playing right next to him, breaking towards goal and providing a sublime ball for him to finish.
The penalty box is 44 yards wide by 18 yards long. Add at least 6 United players to that equation and that area gets pretty tight, pretty fast. I watched as Suarez left Rafeal, Carrick, and Wes Brown dumfounded as he drove towards goal. Add the nutmeg he put under the charging Van Der Sar and you have some brillant work for Kuyt to easily put us up 1-0. A great team effort for that first goal.
Dirk Kuyt has been the subject of many debates lately. He’s in his contract year and both sides of the argument have left many wondering should we sell or keep him. I can’t say that I was decided either way but I have always admired Dirk for the player he is. Sunday I think he showed all of us some pretty convincing stuff and I really hope we’re able to get an extension worked out. Sure all three of his goals were easy finishes, but the hard work he does to get himself into the correct position has to be described as Top Class. A hat trick against any team is difficult. It becomes that much more amazing he did it against a team that’s only lost three times this term. His third goal came from a well struck Suarez free kick. That kick got the best out of Van Der Sar for the save but again Kuyt and his positioning was the finishing touch.
I wondered if a win against the Red Devils would serve as momentum to finish out the season strong. There’s plenty of events that need to take place in order for us to finish top four. I started to think about those very things and it quickly becomes a nightmare trying to figure it all out. I would like to see our club win out the rest of the season. We can only concentrate on our results and the rest will fall into place. I’ll be in my living room cheering every win, loss, or draw. See you guys out there.
Cheers
