60k or more?

Tom Hicks and George Gillett have suspended work on their proposed new stadium and ordered a review of the plans, speculation is they want to expand the capacity, is 60k enough?

Liverpool have targeted 2009 as an opening date for the stadium, but if major changes are made, there would need to be a new planning application.

Gillett said in early February: “The shovel needs to be in the ground in the next 60 days. We are fully supportive of the Stanley Park development and of building a facility that we hope will be the greatest facility in this sport.”

Parry dismissed the claims today saying the figures we’re “plucked from the air”

    I’ve just read reports that the new owners want to make the new stadium bigger than was planned by Moores and Parry and I am DELIGHTED!

    I always thought it was stupidity to leave famous Anfield to a new stadium that is 15,000 seats less than Old Trafford. If we’re going to make such a painful move let it be to s super stadium befitting one of the world’s biggest clubs.

    80,000 is a joy and puts us up among the biggest stadiums. PLEASE let it happen; Liverpool can attract the fans from around the world’ we just need the ambition which Parry and Moores always lacked and why we fell so far behind off the pitch. Thankfully, the new Americans understand what ambition is.

    Old Trafford – 76k
    Emirates – 60k
    Stamford Bridge – 42k

    I think building a ground that won’t be ready for another 3 year and going from 45 to 60k is a bit pointless, considering United would have had their 76k for several years by 2009.

    An extra third capacity sounds great on paper but when you look at the new Wembley and further afield to overseas huge stadiums I feel we are lacking.

    I’ve now idea how many names are on the season ticket waiting list currently but presumably it’s 5 figures and enough to fill most of the new stadium meaning those without season tickets still won’t get to see games?

    Today Parry said on the LFC website:

    “If there are ways of constructing the stadium which would allow for future expansion, we want to investigate it.

    “It makes perfect common sense. We don’t want to steam ahead into something which might prevent expansion in the future.”

    Yes, it makes perfect sense Rick. Why didn’t you yourself investigate these possibilities for future expansion months ago when loads of fans were unhappy with your original plan that no future expansion was possble at the new 60,000 stadium?

    It seemed crazy to leave a stadium because you can’t increase its capacity to move to a new stadium where you couldn’t increase capacity in the future either. But that’s what Rick Parry was doing.

    Why only now when the Americans point out the obvious does Parry realise it was “common sense” to make sure you can increase capacity of the new stadium in the future?

    At times that man seems totally incompetent in his role.
