Carragher hails Raheem Sterling after Europa League win

Liverpool Secured a 1-0 victory over Hearts after an own goal from Andy Webster in the first leg of the Europa League play-off on Thursday night.

Jamie Carragher has praised the performance of Raheem Sterling and believes the youngster can have a big future at Liverpool

“I think the way the manager wants to play is with wide men and that suits Raheem down to the ground,” he said.

“He’s come in and he’s done very well. He’s only a 17-year-old and it looks like he’s got a big future at the club.

“This club’s got a great tradition of bringing young players through and we brought another one on tonight in Adam Morgan. He’s also come through the Academy and Raheem’s got a few starts now this season.”

Here is the Video Highlights of Raheem Sterling’s Superb Display vs Hearts

Raheem surely has to be one of the most exciting players to come through the ranks in years, lets hope it’s not to long before he is considered a first team starter in the premier league.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on Raheem?

There really aren’t many 17 year olds who set the football world alight but they crop up occasionally and if nurtured well can be world beaters. Think about Giggs, Rooney and Owen. To a lesser extent you have people like Walcott. The next one will be Sterling. The lad is superb and extremely talented. He is also fearless with just that level of arrogance needed to mark his mark. His pace is incredible and he reads the game with maturity beyond his years. I just hope BR can bring him on carefully and develop him properly. It takes care and skill to manage a player like that but I think we can do it. Exciting times but we MUST hang on to him and NOT let him go out on loan.

Well said Red Barron. An absolute must to retain. Don’t know if you’ve seen the You Tube footage of BR giving Sterling a bollocking. Great. What was needed to be done. Message clearly received by Raheem and he WILL follow in Giggs, Rooney and Owen’s footsteps. SO looking forward to seeing one our our own come through (don’t forget who signed him!!!!!!!!!) and more (perhaps not quite as talented) in the ressies to come through in time.
