You just knew the Spirit of Shankly would be all over Christian Purslow and the current ownership when word came out about a potential third throwing their hat into the ring of fire. The group has requested that Purslow answer some question and clear the air on the rumours before moving forward.
Whilst I don’t believe a club has to answer to any group, I do think SOS have a point here. Plus, being completely open and honest with the fans at this point is a must if the club ever expects to build back some semblance of trust.
There are some very simple questions that need to be answered before anyone would dare jump on board with another American-based group. Here’s what SOS is looking for:
George Gillett and Tom Hicks have been swimming upstream for some time now. Ever since The Royal Bank of Scotland issued an ultimatum on the American owners’ £237 million debt — the currently government-controlled bank made it clear the massive debt needed to be paid down by July if they wanted to refinance their current loans — things have been far from sunny at the club.
Given the state of the international economy at the moment, the thought of the Liverpool owners obtaining cash injection on their own have all but dried up. And with those disappearing dreams have come the harsh reality that George Gillett and Tom Hicks must now bring on another investor, should the two want to remain at the club in any capacity.
On Sunday, The Guardian reported a story linking a New York-based management firm called the Rhone Group with the American owners.
Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger both picked up injuries recently; and the club have now given updates as to where both defenders are at in their recovery.
Barring a drastic run of results for everyone at the top of the table, the 2009/10 season will be looked back on by Liverpool fans as a disaster. Come the end of the season, most fans will be saying “if only…” to a number of a scenarios as Liverpool push for 4th place, having challenged for the title last year.
Milan Jovanovic has reportedly signed a pre contract agreement with Liverpool meaning he come to Anfield in the summer on a free transfer; but for those of you who haven’t seen him in action before, watch these videos of him scoring for Standard Liege to see what Rafa has added to his strikeforce.
Liverpool Football Club have today finally announced the signing of Maxi Rodriguez on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid, who has signed a 3 and half year contract at Anfield.
Liverpool are to sign Maxi Rodriguez on a six month loan deal from Atletico Madrid, according to reports.
Liverpool have been linked with Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey over the last few days; isn’t this a sign of how bad things are getting at Anfield? In pre-season, Rafa admitted David Silva was a target, yet now we are scraping the barrel going for a player who was not deemed good enough during his first spell with Liverpool.
Liverpool face Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday, who are currently in 3rd place in the league, 4 points ahead of Liverpool. Fernando Torres is expected to start, while Alberto Aquilani could also make his first Premiership start of the season.
It’s been quite a roller coaster ride for Brazilian Lucas Leiva since he made his way to Anfield from Gremio for around £5m during the summer of 2007.
Instead of getting an opportunity to learn the subtle nuances of the Premier League, Leiva has been throw into the fire in his second season with the club, after Xabi Alonso proceeded to shun his former club for the chance to play in Spain.
Many Liverpool fans have mixed views when when it comes to young Lucas Leiva. Some consider him to be a talented player who just hasn’t found his top quality yet; whilst, others have already labelled him a complete flop.
Regardless of which side of the fence you’re on, it’s safe to say the young Brazilian is very much a part of Rafa Benitez’s future plans.
AnfieldRed had the chance to speak with Lucas recently to get his thoughts on a number of issues. From his feelings on living abroad in England to his struggles with acclimating to the rough-and-tumble world of the Premier League, the young Brazilian gives us a glimpse into his life playing for the Reds.
