Clint Dempsey and Fabio Borini – A statistical look
As you probably already know, in Brendan Rodgers’ recent press-conference, he stated, “For players to be associated with Liverpool is great, but the reality is we’ve only made three or four enquires about players and we hopefully can close out one deal this week.”
Two of the players strongly linked with a move to Anfield this summer are Roma starlet Fabio Borini and Fulham’s Clint Dempsey. Sky Sports News just a few hours ago reported that according to Borini’s agent, Marco De Marchi, Fabio is ‘seriously considering’ a move to Liverpool. Borini aside, many rumors are circulating stating that Liverpool are on the verge of signing American danger-man Clint Dempsey.
To give you guys a better idea of what these to player are like, I went to do a little bit of snooping around on them. Let’s start of with their ages, Clint Dempsey turned 29 this year whereas Fabio Borini is 21. In 57 games, Dempsey scored 28 goals and made 7 assists in all competitions last season. In 20 games Borini scored 10 goals and made 0 assists last season. Let’s look at their stats in terms of league games now, in 37 league games Dempsey scored 17 goals and assisted 6. In 20 league games, Borini scored 9 goals and assisted 0.
Liverpool’s most ‘consistent’ goal scorer last season was Maxi Rodriguez with a Premier League goal every 203 mins. Clint Dempsey scored a Premier League goal every 195 mins last season. Lastly, Fabio Borini, who scored a Serie A goal every 122 mins last season.
Both players would be brilliant additions to Liverpool’s squad this season. They’d also come relatively cheaply, with both players estimated to be worth around 6-8 million pounds. Fabio Borini looks the likelier of the two to come at the moment with our interest in him confirmed by AS Roma’s sporting director, Walter Sabatini. Our chances of signing him are also boosted by the fact that he is familiar with Brendan Rodgers, being coached by him twice, once at Chelsea’s youth academy and again when he was sent on loan to Swansea in their promotion campaign where he scored 6 goals and assisted 3 in 11 Championship games. Hopefully we can finalize a deal for him come the end of the week.
