Is Gylfi Sigurdsson really going to snub Liverpool for manager-less Spurs?

Sigurdsson had looked set to join the reds following a successful loan spell under Rodgers at Swansea last season.

However reports in Germany claim a deal has been agreed between Hoffenheim and Tottenham for a fee around 10m euros.

BBC Sport journalist Ben Smith wrote on twitter this morning “Hoffenheim had an agent in England yesterday, he flew back to Germany pm. If a deal has been done, almost certain it’s not LFC.”

Now am I the only one who thinks it’s weird Spurs are signing him without even appointing a manager? Why would Sigurdsson even want to choose a club which currently don’t have a new manager? What if he is not in the new managers plans for next season.

Sounds like alot of paper talk to me and I personally think this deal is far from complete.

Have your say, do you think Gylfi Sigurdsson is really going to sign for a club without a manager? Is it a ploy to get Liverpool to up what their willing to offer?

Because football doesn’t work the way you think it works. Players mostly play for contracts not managers. Remember that when Suarez starts to bandy himself around.

I think BR has realised he has more pressing issues with transfers, squad strength and funds to continue persuing Sigurdsson. The interest has cooled from us, why else would we not have even approached Hoffenheim in the last few weeks? According to them, only Swansea has approached them as of last week.

It’s all about the money. loyalty does not exist.

I think you’re correct.  This sounds like a ploy planted by Hoffenheim.  Sounds like they suggested Tottenham as the team pursuing Sigurdsson because without a manager, there is one less person for the press to try and contact to verify the claim.

Rodgers said early on that if they responded to every media claim they’d be having to do so 24/7.  This just doesn’t sound plausible.

So it appears that more recent reports suggest Sigurdsson may be trying to milk Liverpool for all he thinks he’s worth, and that Rodgers is not happy about it.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out as it is likely to set a precedence regarding how Rodgers responds to such tactics.
