Liverpool Latest : Including Enrique Injury Update

Full back Jose Enrique will miss the Reds Europa League fixture against Hearts as manager Brendan Rodgers prepares to field a much-changed side.

The 26 year old was absent for last Saturday’s 3-0 Premier League defeat at West Brom due to a knee injury, which he picked up in training.

“He had a couple of scans which didn’t show a great deal but he’s still in pain,” said Rodgers.

“The last day or two he has improved dramatically. Obviously not enough to be involved on Thursday night, but we’re hoping that by the weekend he’ll be fit and available.”

Rodgers also admits he could give a chance to several of the younger players who impressed during the North American tour.

Skipper Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Martin Skrtel and Glen Johnson will stay behind as Rodgers plans to rest a number of key players ahead of the crunch tie against Manchester City.

It’s a chance for me to see the young players,” Rodgers told a press conference at Tynecastle.

“Raheem Sterling has come in and showed up very, very well over the course of pre-season. Jack has obviously been limited with the game time he’s been able to get, but this is a chance.

“We want to do well, but this competition is also a great opportunity for me to see the young players, mixed in with some of the experienced players.

“It’s a young group but I’ve got some strong, experienced players, international captains, Champions League winners – it’s still a strong enough team.”

Lets hope we can get back to winning ways against Hearts. Who would you like to see in the starting XI?

The squad looks interesting with a mix of youth and senior players. Defo better than the used and tried names of last season.

  • Daniel

Want Borini to play up front .Pacheco on the wing and Shelvey as attacking midfielder..

  • George

An absolte must win after WBA meltdown. I’m really hoping Pach and Sterling will get some time. Does anyone please know what the (true) position is with Doni????? Visa problems were stated as his non appearance in America, but I suspect something a bit deeper than this….. Whatever happens at Tynecastle we must also get on the front foot against Man City. I sincerely hope Carra doesn’t get shown up by Tevez. However, not confident Coates can handle a game like this either. Kelly in middle? Possibly. Still confident the BR has the nous to get this team gelling but we wasted a heaven sent opportunity to get a confidence booster at the Hawthorns. I actually laughed out load when Cole came on. Not Liverpool like I know but ffs he should not be allowed near the first team with Suso, Sterling and possibly Pachecho age and skill wise well infront of him in the queue. ’twill be difficult to unload him I think. YNWA for ever!!!!!!!!!!!!
