Liverpool Owners make decision on new stadium

According to a report in The Telegraph Fenway Sports Ground have made the long awaited decision to build a new stadium on Stanley Park.

The report claims that the owners have decided to go with the original architects AFL, which means the plans which former owner Tom Hicks had selected from Dallas architects HKS have now been scrapped.

It is said that the plans from AFL which can be seen here will now be modinised and put in place. Lets hope they are able to keep the capacity of 72,000 which was specified in the 2008 plans.

Let’s also hope the club is now able to find a suitable naming rights partner and arrange the additional funding for the stadium so that work can commence in the near future.

It will be sad for the club to leave Anfield and all the memories, but if the club wants to compete with the other top clubs in Europe then they need the additional revenue generated from a much larger stadium.

What do our fans think of the stadium decision? and leaving Anfield?

Thank goodness some action has started on this. Anfield is very dated now and this great club has got to move with the times. A capacity less than 72,000 will be no good for this great club.

It is time for a fresh start,i like thousands of other Liverpool fans wolud love a chance to actually watch the match live as currently i really struggle to get tickets,we need more revenue to really compete on the world stage and attract top class players too.

I’m surprised this article states that HKS is no longer the architect in charge.  The rendering for the new stadium draws clear inspiration from the HKS designed Cowboys Stadium although I must say I prefer the look of the Liverpool one.

Get with the times and future! Anfield is out dated and old. We need to realize it’s just concrete. The fans are what makes the atmosphere, not the concrete! Also, a new space and larger ground will revive our club!

I partly agree with what Joshc has to say but Anfield like every other football ground was never the same once seating came in.
