Liverpool stun City with 1-0 Victory

Liverpool are now one step closer to reaching the Carling Cup Final after an impressive display at Etihad Stadium. Liverpool were by far the better team in the first half, keeping possession well and creating chances.

They were rewarded in the 11th minute when Daniel Agger was fouled in the box by Stefan Savic. Steven Gerrard stepped up confidently and put it in the back of the net to make it 1-0.

Liverpool were unlucky not to increase there lead in the first half, if not for some great keeping by Joe Hart to keep out Stewart Downing and Steven Gerrard.

City came out alot stronger in the second half as Liverpool sat back and defended well, bringing on both Jose Enrique and Jamie Carragher to bolster there defence.

Sergio Aguero looked the most dangerous of the City attackers, but some good defending was able to keep him at bay.  Augero went close towards the end but his close range shot went inches over the bar.

So overall a great result for Liverpool with their 1-0 win, which will see them go into the second leg of the semi-final the happier of the two sides.

Was a hard game to pick our man of the match, but we’d have to give it to Steven Gerrard, with Daniel Agger a close second.

What do our fans think of the performance? Who would be your man of the match?
