Liverpool Transfer Update
Liverpool Football Club have today confirmed that Craig Bellamy has completed a move to Championship side Cardiff City. Family reasons have been cited as the cause of his departure.
The 33 year old’s family has lived in Cardiff throughout his long career as a footballer which has seen him travel a lot due to the large amount clubs he has been at.
It is believed that the Welshman wants to be closer to his family and has reportedly taken a major wage cut bringing them to £30k per week. He also reportedly turned down the advances of Mark Hughes’ QPR who offered him double what he’d receive at Cardiff.
The forward has been an integral part of our season, scoring 9 goals and assisting 7 in all competitions. Most notably scoring the equalizer in our thrilling 2-2 League Cup semi-final against former club Manchester City.
Despite his age he has shown during the 2012 London Olympics that he has more than what it takes to compete at the top level, providing some inspiring performances for Team GB. He will be a great loss to Liverpool Football Club. You have been a great servant to the club. Thank you for putting us into the Champions League final in 2007, League Cup final in 2012 and providing us with so much entertainment across the years (e.g. bollocking Riise with a golf club).
Goodbye Craig, and we wish you and your family all the best. You’ll Never Walk Alone.
As one Welshman leaves the club, another looks to be joining. Brendan Rodgers yesterday stated in his post-match press conference that Liverpool had agreed a fee with Swansea for Joe Allen.
He was also present at Anfield during Liverpool’s rout of FC Gomel. He has reportedly already undergone a medical at Melwood and has passed it, with an official announcement by the club confirming his signing expected later today.
The fee involved is believed to be around £15 million with Allen’s wages trebled plus a signing on fee of £2 million. A relatively large sum of money for a 21 year old. But quality doesn’t come cheap. I wish you the best and a bright future ahead at Liverpool. Welcome to Liverpool Joe. And you too, will never walk alone.
