The 21 year old has agreed personal terms to join Liverpool and according to Tony Barrett of the Times, Liverpool and Roma have agreed on a £10.6m fee for the Italy international. Papers such as the Daily Mirror and Liverpool Echo also report that Fabio is heading to Liverpool, with the Mirror suggesting that the clubs agreed on a £12m deal and the Liverpool Echo reporting that the fee involved is £11m. The young forward is believed to be at Melwood for a medical later today.
It is a brilliant signing in my opinion. For a 21 year old to notch up 9 goals in 20 starts in arguably the most defensive league a.k.a the Serie A is fantastic. He’s received a lot of praise for his fantastic movement and brilliantly timed runs. Most of his goals have come from beating the offside trap or getting in behind defenders and finding space in the box. One of Liverpool’s problems last season was a lack of movement in the box. They would just pass it in front of the back four with no penetration whatsoever and either end up running out of ideas and giving the ball away or pushing the ball out wide and swinging in poor/aimless crosses expecting Andy Carroll to finish them.
Borini is also a good free-kick taker, notably scoring a 25 yard cracker against Norwich in the Championship during the 2010/11 season. To top it off he’s lighting quick off the mark and has a dead eye for goal. He reminds me of the Fernando Torres who played for Liverpool. £11m is an absolute steal for a player with such potential. Let’s all hope he fulfills his potential at Liverpool. Welcome to Anfield, Fabio.5 Comments
