One year ago today: Roy Hodgson appointed Liverpool manager
On July 1st 2010, Liverpool made one of the worst managerial decisions in history by installing Roy Hodgson in charge of the club. Poor signings, bad performances and a terrible rapport with the fans saw him guide our team to the relegation zone before Kenny Dalglish agreed to become the boss in January.
Roy Hodgson was brought in to ‘‘steady the ship’ after the British media firstly completed their hatchet job on Rafa Benitez, before lobbying to get the useless fool Hodgson in at LFC, yet from the outset it was plain to see he was never really good enough for us. Terrible results against Man City, Birmingham, Blackpool, Stoke, Man Utd and the mighty Northampton Town saw us slip down the table and out of the Carling Cup, while signings such as Joe Cole, Paul Konchesky and Christian Poulsen hardly inspired Liverpool fans to get behind the team.
Roy claimed Liverpool’s expectations were too high; thinking he could wing it by scraping results as he used to with Fulham, yet in reality he was alienating the fans and making more enemies than friends.
A look at his quotes after just 6 months in charge(thanks to ThisisAnfield.com) shows just how out of touch he was with everyone at the club – claiming the 2-0 defeat to Everton was a good performance, criticising the supporters’ protests against Hicks and Gillette, failing to rule out Torres moving to Man Utd, not sticking up for his striker when his good pal Alex Ferguson accused him of diving, claiming a famous victory over Bolton Wanderers, and then saying Rafa Benitez banned Dalglish from Melwood (despite Rafa bringing Kenny back to the club in the first place) just made people see how much of a buffoon Roy Hodgson really was.
The only good thing I remember about Roy Hodgson’s time in charge is the day he was sacked. Good riddance to bad shite.
