A lack of depth at the full-back position apparently forced Roy Hodgson’s hand today, as the manager agreed to a £2.5m with Aston Villa for full-back Luke Young. Whilst Young isn’t the most known player, Insua’s pending departure to Fiorentina, coupled with Aurelio’s free, leaves the club in a precarious position.
At 31-years-old, Young is no spring chicken; however, he does have the ability to play both full-back positions, as well as giving Liverpool another homegrown player. I’m certain there are a number of supporters out there questioning the move, but at this point there really aren’t a whole lot of other options out on the market.
The waiting game is over for Roy Hodgson. The club and all of Merseyside had been waiting with bated breath for Fernando Torres’ decision to stay or move on next season, and on Tuesday night they received the news: Liverpool’s No.9 will be staying on at the club for the foreseeable future.
Radio 5 broke the news in the past couple of hours that Torres met with Hodgson and confirmed that he will be returning to the club with the intentions of playing next season for the Reds. He expects to return to training on Monday.
Whilst that’s all the information I have at the moment it is a great bit of news, and caps what surely has been a fantastic fortnight for the club. Gerrard and Torres confirming their commitments to the club, as well as the signing of Joe Cole, has things looking up at the moment.

Rafa hosted his opening press conference with the Italian media earlier today, marking the beginning of his managerial reign with the Serie A giants.
Seriously, how strange is it to see him holding up that kit? I still can’t get over the fact that it’s not ours.
